Antonio Cupo (born 10th January 1978) is a Canadian actor of Italian descent. He currently portrays Marco Moretti in the Global Television series Bomb Girls.

Biography[]

Cupo was born in Vancouver into a family of Italian immigrants who arrived in Canada in 1968, and is the youngest of three children. His father Manlio is from Palomonte, a small town in the province of Salerno in south-western Italy, and his mother Lucia from Barletta, a province of Bari. His siblings are named Saturday and Carmelina. Cupo graduated from the University of British Columbia after studying English Literature.

From the age of six to sixteen, Cupo performed in many theatrical productions both scholastically and regionally. He also worked in television and films, and was the lead singer of the band Hybrid Cartel.

His first starring role was under the direction of Fabio Segatori in the film Hollywood Flies. Other notable films and series featuring Cupo (which were filmed in the United States) include The Lizzie McGuire Movie (directed by Jim Fall), Taken (produced by Steven Spielberg) and The L Word.

In Italy, Cupo is known for his role as the male lead in the second season of Elisa di Rivombrosa. In 2007, he starred in the TV movie titled Love Notes alongside Laura Leighton. Later, he played the role of boxer Max Baer in Renzo Martinelli's Carnera - The Walking Mountain, also featuring in the sitcom My Doctors and the movies Barbarossa (directed again by Renzo Martinelli) and Smile (directed by Francis Gasperoni), both of which were released in theaters in 2009 . Between 2009 and 2010, he played the protagonist (opposite Roberta Lanfranchi) in the musical Cinderella, directed by Massimo Romeo Piparo. In 2011, he also starred in the made-for-TV film Magic Beyond Words: The JK Rowling Story opposite Poppy Montgomery.

Also in 2011, Cupo was cast as Marco Moretti in the Canadian television series Bomb Girls. He had a starring role alongside Autumn Reeser in the Hallmark Channel Original Movie Love at the Thanksgiving Day Parade (which also featured his Bomb Girls co-star Ali Liebert) in the lead-up to Christmas 2012.

Cupo's other works include Elegy (with Penélope Cruz, Sir Ben Kingsley and Dennis Hopper) and a Rolex commercial directed by Joe Carnahan.

Personal life and trivia[]

  • Elisa di Rivombrosa, in which Cupo played a starring role, garnered over 14 million viewers and was considered one of the biggest television series in the history of Italian television.
  • Cupo has starred opposite OSCAR winner F. Murray Abraham in three films; September 11 1683, Sword of War and Carnera - The Walking Mountain.
